Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 11, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Inner Space (“we”, “us”, or “the App”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application. By downloading and using Inner Space, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
1. Overview
Inner Space is a personal mood and diary journaling application. The App does not require you to create an account with us, and the core functionality works entirely offline. The Application is designed as “local-first” utility. We do not require registration, and we do not use any central servers to store your personal information.
- Diary Entries: Text content you write, including titles, body text, mood selections, weather tags, timestamps and location information (optional).
- Media Files: Photos, videos, and voice recordings you choose to attach to your diary entries.
- Local User Profile (optional): If you choose to set up a local user profile, the App may store a username, display name, and avatar image on your device.
- App Settings: Your preferences such as font family, theme mode, emoji set, and cover image selections.
- Location Data (only with your permission): When you grant location permission and choose to tag a diary entry with your location, the App collects your device’s approximate or precise geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude), along with a reverse-geocoded location name and nearby points of interest (POIs). This data is stored locally with the corresponding diary entry and is never collected or transmitted to our servers.
- Audio Data (only with your permission): When you grant microphone permission and choose to record a voice memo, audio is captured from your device microphone and saved as a media file attached to your diary entry. Audio is processed and stored entirely on your device.
- To provide diary functionality: Storing, displaying, and organizing your journal entries, mood records, and attached media.
- To enable location features (optional): Tagging diary entries with location names and nearby points of interest, and displaying your diary locations on a map.
- To enable voice memos (optional): Recording and playing back audio attachments within your diary entries.
- To provide app security (optional): Using biometric authentication (fingerprint or face recognition) to lock the App and protect your diary content.
- To enable cloud backup (optional): Allowing you to back up and restore your diary data to your own Google Drive account. Restoring a backup may overwrite existing diary data. Users are encouraged to create a backup before restoring.
- To provide premium features (optional): Verifying and managing your premium subscription or lifetime purchase through Google Play Billing.
- To improve the App: We do not use your data for analytics or product improvement purposes.
3. Data Storage and Security
3.1 Local Storage
All diary content, including text entries, mood data, media files (images, videos, audio), and app settings, is stored locally on your device in the App’s internal storage and a local database. This data is sandboxed and not accessible to other apps.
3.2 Data Deletion
You can delete your data at any time by:
- Deleting individual diary entries within the App.
- Uninstalling the App, which removes all locally stored data.
When you delete diary entries, associated media files are also deleted from your device.
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
Inner Space does not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Your diary content is stored locally and is not shared with us or any third party, except as described below:
4.1 Google Drive Backup (User-Initiated)
When you choose to back up your diary data to Google Drive, your data (database and media files) is uploaded to your own Google Drive account in a folder named Inner Space/Backups/. This data is stored in your personal Google Drive and is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. The App accesses only the files necessary to provide backup and restore functionality using the permissions you grant. We do not access other files in your Google Drive. The App requests the following Google Drive scopes:
• drive.file — Access only to files created or opened by the App.
• drive.appdata — Access to the App’s private data folder in Google Drive.
4.2 Google Play Billing
When you purchase a premium subscription or lifetime license, the transaction is processed by Google Play. Google Play Billing handles all payment information, and we do not collect, store, or process your payment card details. Purchase tokens are used solely to verify your premium status. See Google Play Privacy Policy.
4.3 Location and POI Queries
When you choose to tag a diary entry with your location, the App may send your device’s geographic coordinates to the following services to retrieve location names and nearby points of interest:
- Android Geocoder: A system service that converts coordinates to a human-readable address. Data handling depends on your device manufacturer.
- Overpass API: An OpenStreetMap-based service used to retrieve nearby points of interest (POIs), such as restaurants, cafes, parks, and other public places. When you choose to attach a location to a diary entry, only the geographic coordinates necessary to perform the request are transmitted directly to the Overpass API. These coordinates are not sent to or stored on our servers.
Location coordinates are sent to these services only when you actively choose to add location to a diary entry. They are not sent automatically or in the background.
5. Data Retention
- Local data: Diary entries and media files are retained on your device until you delete them or uninstall the App.
- Google Drive backups: Retained in your Google Drive until you delete them through the App or directly from Google Drive.
- Purchase data: Premium status is verified with Google Play on each app launch; no purchase data is stored by us beyond the encrypted premium flag on your device.
6. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
